Hasina, 11, hails from the coastal city of Morondava in Madagascar. She lost her father when she was very young. After her father’s passing, Hasina’s mother fell gravely ill and with no one else to rely on, young Hasina was left to take care of her mum alone. This kept her from going to school for months and deprived her of the simple joys of childhood. Although her mother eventually recovered, she remarried a man that quickly turned out to be violent. To protect her daughter and break the cycle of abuse at home, Hasina’s mother entrusted her to the sisters of the Fifaliana foyer.

At first, Hasina felt lost and confused, and deeply missed her mother. But with time, she slowly found her footing and started to connect with the other girls at the foyer, many of whom also carry difficult stories marked by abuse and violence. Today, radiant and full of energy, Hasina has the most infectious smile and wherever she goes, that smile brings joy to people around her.

Thanks to the sister’s support and attentive care, she truly feels at home at the foyer:

my favorite moments are when I go out and play with the sisters, Hasina shares with a bright smile. Each of us here has beautiful, spacious and well-kept rooms, and I love Miss Florine’s cooking!

The sisters at the Fifaliana Foyer support the personal development of each girl, providing a safe and inclusive environment where each of them can learn, grow and flourish.

Today, Hasina attends the Lycée Saint Paul, a school next to the foyer, where she is currently in 7th grade. Her biggest dream is to become a doctor:

I am ready to do anything in my power to work hard and not fail even one year!

Hasina remembers the time when her mother was sick, the pain and helplessness she felt. By becoming a doctor, she hopes to prevent others from going through such a painful and difficult experience and to help those who need it most.
