Promoting Sustainable Development through Holistic Education in India

 
A phenomenal and groundbreaking event has been held on past January 12 at Good Shepherd Matriculation Higher Secondary School, in Chennai, India to promote Sustainable Development through Holistic Education. There were over 150 students both girls and boys from 18 Good Shepherd schools in India taking part in numerous contests bringing the best of youth talent, creativity, knowledge and innovation to promote Sustainable Development.
 
This event was organized by Good Shepherd Chennai with the dedicated leadership of Sashi Natarajan, a member of the Good Shepherd Asia Pacific Educator’s Committee, educators from the Good Shepherd Chennai and students themselves.
 
The Good Shepherd International Foundation was honoured to participate in the event. Our Asia Pacific Regional Manager Onalie De Silva spoke about the role of value-based education in promoting Sustainable Development, smart and safe use of technology, the importance of empowering women and young girls to explore opportunities in education and employment and the significance of innovation in addressing development issues across the world.
 
The event was furthermore the opportunity to present the results of the recent research ‘How are the Girls? A study on the Rights of Girls in six countries during the Covid-19 Pandemic’. The study, conducted by  the Good Shepherd Sisters, Salesian Sisters, Comboni Sisters and Sisters of our Lady of the Missions explored how the pandemic had affected the girls involved in Good Shepherd educational programs in India
