Good Shepherd Mission Development Corporation

The Good Shepherd Mission Development Corporation (GSMDC) is a nonprofit organization based in the United States organized and operated exclusively for charitable, religious, and educational purposes; specifically, to support the global mission activities of the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (OLCGS, commonly known as the Good Shepherd Sisters), a religious institute of the Roman Catholic Church. GSMDC is a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and is included under the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) group tax exemption as well as listed in the Official Catholic Directory.

OLCGS is an international religious congregation of women present in 68 countries. Its mission is to provide programs that transform the lives of marginalized and vulnerable girls, women and children who experience poverty, violence and discrimination. These programs promote the dignity and human rights of all.

GSMDC works as an affiliate partner of the Good Shepherd International Foundation (GSIF) is a nonprofit also funded by OLCGS based in Rome, Italy. It provides technical assistance and capacity building as well as direct financial support to OLCGS’s programs and assists in coordinating grants and managing donations for international initiatives that support mission needs.

Projects supported

In 2022, the Good Shepherd Mission Development Corporation (GSMDC) provided financial support to 21 projects run by the Good Shepherd Sisters in the areas of health, education, emergency relief, women’s and girls’ empowerment and community development in various countries, including Angola, Madagascar, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Bolivia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines. The Good Shepherd International Foundation (GSIF) provided support to these international solidarity initiatives and assisted GSMDC with the financial and technical aspects of developing and implementing these projects.

How to donate to Good Shepherd Mission Development Corporation

We welcome the opportunity to discuss the country and program area to which you would like to donate, as well as the impact your donation can make.

Your donation is tax-deductible, as GSMDC is a tax-exempt entity included under USCCB’s group exemption.  However, because GSMDC is covered by a group exemption, you will not find it on the Internal Revenue Service’s Tax Exempt Organizations Search or on third-party platforms like Guidestar.org.

We count on your important partnership to realize our mission. However, please note that all donations are nonetheless subject to the discretion and control of GSMDC’s Board. Please note that GSMDC does not assess administration fee on donations.

GRANTS & FINANCIALS

GSMDC provides financial support through grants to projects that work on health, education, disaster relief, and community development in various countries. GSMDC only distributes grants to other charitable organizations, and conducts due diligence to ensure that grant recipients are charitable entities and not subject to any sanctions or other restrictions. GSMDC also requires a written agreement with each grantee as well as regular reports of the grantee’s activities. GSMDC operates in full compliance with all laws and regulations relating to cross-border philanthropic activity.
