Activities
In 2019-2020, 3 projects in coordination with the Good Shepherd International Foundation:
- INTEGRAL EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENT WORKERS IN QUITO. It is executed by the Integral Center for Children and Adolescents CENIT. This project is aimed at 120 children in a highly vulnerable situation (child labour, poverty, street children). The objective is to contribute to the progressive eradication of child labour by providing a comprehensive educational service to children and adolescents who have not entered or have dropped out of regular education and who are behind in school. To this end, we propose 120 children and adolescents are attended to and will exercise their right to education, healthy food and family life.
- PROMOTING ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN IN QUITO – ECUADOR. It is being implemented by the Villa María and María Droste Women’s Support Centres. Aimed at 120 women in vulnerable situations (poverty, prostitution, violence and migration) The objective is to contribute to the integral development and empowerment of women in vulnerable situations affected by violence, poverty or in situations of prostitution by developing their economic and social capacities through training for personal and spiritual growth, education and technical assistance that contributes to the improvement of their life situation and that of their families.
- PROJECT OF EMERGENCY OF THE COVID 19, with the Good Shepherd International Foundation. The great crisis caused by the covid 19 pandemic is a tragedy for the families with whom we work in the different Social Works, which have a poor socioeconomic situation due to the fact that they do not have a stable job, they do not have a secure salary every month, they are engaged in street selling, recycling, prostitution, domestic work that at this moment they did not do because of the confinement. The families are made up of 6 or 7 members. A large percentage are heads of highly vulnerable households who have suffered violence and neglect. They have entered into a situation of anguish and desperation, they do not have enough to pay rent, food and therefore for the education of their children. In addition, the rate of domestic violence due to confinement has increased.Food kits were delivered six times, a biosecurity kit once, communication material for the prevention of overexposure and spiritual accompaniment.
The beneficiaries were 370 poor families from the works in Quito, Portoviejo and Guayaquil. 2,590 people received food and 15,910 kits were delivered.

AREAS OF INTERVENTION
COUNTRY BACKGROUND / OVERVIEW
The country covers 256,370 square kilometres and is the most densely populated in South America. There are currently 17 million inhabitants. The capital is Quito with the largest number of inhabitants, followed by Guayaquil. The official language is Spanish, which is spoken by 99% of the population. There are also 13 other indigenous languages such as Kichwa and Shuar. As for religion, there is freedom of worship and the Catholic religion predominates. The Ecuadorian population is made up of 41% mestizos, 39% Amerindians, 9.9% whites, 5% mulattos, 5% blacks and 0.1% Asians.
It is divided into four regions, in which 24 provinces are distributed. On the Pacific coast are the provinces of Esmeraldas, Manabí, Los Ríos, Guayas, El Oro and Santa Elena. In the highlands, in the northern zone of Los Andes, are Carchi, Imbabura, Pichincha, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua and Chimborazo; in the southern sector are Bolívar, Cañar, Azuay and Loja. In the Amazon, on the other hand, are Sucumbíos, Napo, Pastaza, Orellana, Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe. And in the insular region, the Galapagos Islands, composed of thirteen main islands.
The country is one of the world’s leading oil exporters, the world’s leading banana exporter and one of the leading exporters of flowers, shrimp and cocoa. Tourism is also very important in the national economy.
